“Our nations and our world stand at a genuine inflection point in history,” said President Biden as he announced the launch of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment during the G-7 Summit in Schloss Elmau, Germany. The president said, “the United States will mobilize $200 billion in public and private capital over the next five years for that Partnership.” Viewed as an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the infrastructure partnership focuses on several key areas the G-7 considers “critical to sustainable development,” including health security, gender equality, and climate and energy security.
