President Biden applauded a bipartisan gun safety law he signed in June 2022 but stressed more needs to be done to protect the public, especially children. from gun violence. His comments came during remarks at the White House touting the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The law came to fruition after a group of bipartisan senators negotiated legislation shortly after the May 2022 Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting where 19 children and two adults were killed. During his remarks, the president was interrupted by Manuel Oliver, the father of a child who died in a mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, school. close
