Senate Budget Committee Chair Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called it “extortion” for the CEO of Intel to threaten to move production of computer chips overseas unless Congress provides additional funding to the industry. He said he supports efforts to expand U.S. production but not at the expense of taxpayers. Senator Sanders said the industry is capable of improving U.S. production with its record profits and that any financial assistance from the government should include restrictions, including a ban on stock buybacks. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) agreed with Senator Sanders and spoke more on the topic. close
