In a 220-207 vote, the House approved the Democratic tax, health care and climate change bill, called the Inflation Reduction Act and which passed the Senate 51-50 the previous Sunday. The package raises $750 billion in taxes, allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices, and seeks to cut carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2030. Members came into session for this one day only to pass the bill, interrupting their August recess. Representative Brad Finstad (R-MN) was sworn in as the newest member of the House. He won a special election to replace former Representative Jim Hagedorn (R), who died earlier in the year. close
