The White House Monkeypox Response Team and other federal public health officials announced Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the JYNNEOS vaccine, which includes changes to how the vaccine is administered. The news came during the first official press briefing on the monkeypox response effort. The EUA allows the vaccine to be administered intradermally, that is, between layers of the skin, instead of subcutaneously, which is administered under the skin. Also, the new strategy allows up to five doses per vial instead of only one dose. The officials noted that, with this method, the 400,000 vials in the current inventory hold the potential to provide up to 2 million doses. Finally, the EUA allows high-risk individuals younger than 18-years-old to take the vaccine. The Biden administration declared the outbreak a national health emergency on August 4. close
