The Federalist Society held a virtual discussion on the opioid epidemic. Panelists debated whether legalization of more drugs would help combat the crisis. Other topics included societal attitudes toward drug users and international trafficking, with a focus on China and Mexico in manufacturing and distributing opioids. The moderator of the event, citing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, said that about 107,000 drug overdose deaths happened in the U.S. in 2021, with 75 percent of those attributed to opioids. close
