“I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland as he made a statement four days after the FBI conducted a search of former President Trump’s home in Florida. The attorney general announced the Justice Department had filed a motion in the Southern District of Florida to unseal “a search warrant and property receipt” related to the residence. He said the department filed a motion to make the warrant public because of “the former president’s public confirmation of the search.” Attorney General Garland then said, “Upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly, without fear or favor. … All Americans are entitled to the even-handed application of the law, the due process of the law, and the presumption of innocence.” close
