“This first launch is another first step on the blueprint of our sustainable exploration of the solar system,” said Jim Free, NASA’s associate administrator of the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate. His comments came as he and private industry partners briefed the press on NASA’s Artemis Moon to Mars mission, and the role large and small businesses have played in bringing Artemis-1 to launch. The unmanned Artemis-1 mission, considered a “flight test,” marks NASA’s return to the moon and was scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on August 29, 2022. Following this event, due to an engine issue the mission was postponed until the following week, contingent upon engineers being able to diagnose and fix the issue. close
