Representative Scott Peters (D-CA) discussed the military’s role in combating climate change during a virtual discussion with the American Security Project. Before being elected to Congress, Representative Peters spent 15 years as environmental attorney, and while serving on the San Diego City Council he helped lead the clean up of the city’s beaches and bays. Representative Peters urged Americans to follow the military’s mission-led strategy on mitigating the impact of climate change, arguing that the military is “just not tree huggers ... they are driving this transition away from oil and gas when they can because it supports the mission.” He argued for facts over ideology and urged Americans to be innovators. close
