“When the President speaks tonight at Independence Hall, the first lines out of his mouth should be to apologize for slandering tens of millions of Americans as ‘fascists,'” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who gave remarks from President Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Leader McCarthy’s statement referred to remarks President Biden made at an August 25 Democratic fundraiser in a Maryland private residence, during which the president compared “extreme MAGA philosophy” to “semi-fascism.” Leader McCarthy criticized the Democrats’ handling of inflation, crime, and immigration. He then said that Republicans would improve the country if they gain the majority in the midterms for the 118th Congress. Pennsylvania U.S. House Candidate Jim Bognet (R), a challenger to incumbent Representative Matt Cartwright (D), who represents Scranton, also spoke. The event came shortly before President Biden’s prime-time speech from Philadelphia. close
