Following a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell announced another interest rate increase, by 3/4 of a percentage point, in response to record high inflation. This was the third consecutive time that rates had been raised at that level. Chair Powell said further increases were expected as the Fed continued to try to control inflation. The FOMC meets eight times a year to make monetary policy decisions based on economic data and conditions. The next meeting was scheduled for November 1, 2022. close
