The Senate Rules Committee met to debated the Bipartisan Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Act. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) during his opening statement said that, barring any changes to the legislation, he would “be proud to vote for it and to help advance it.” If passed into law, the bill would clarify the 1887 law to limit the vice president’s role to counting votes and raise the threshold to object to electors, among other provisions. The bill passed through the committee with almost unanimous support, 16-1. close
