The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Reed v. Goertz, a case on the statute of limitations governing DNA testing of evidence in post-convictions. Texas death row inmate Rodney Reed is seeking new DNA testing to clear him in the 1996 murder of Stacey Stites, a 19-year-old white woman Mr. Reed was having an affair with. Mr. Reed, who is Black, has maintained his innocence from the start. Through the years his legal team has brought forth evidence that could implicate the victim’s fiancĂ©, whom they believe he killed her after finding out about the affair. Mr. Reed’s legal team sought to get DNA testing on evidence from the crime scene but have been unsuccessful. close
