Fawzia Koofi, the first female to be elected second deputy speaker in the Afghan parliament, discussed women’s rights in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s control over the country. She elaborated on how the Taliban broke its promises in regard to giving women more rights and equality, and reflected on the Taliban’s takeover on August 15, 2021, which she called a “handover.” When asked if the Biden administration was given a difficult situation amid the Trump administration’s deal with the Taliban to withdraw U.S. forces, she replied, “I think the way the Afghanistan case was managed ... was really not very responsible by both presidents, I must say.” close
