“By the end of this week, the Department of Education will have approved applications of 16 million Americans,” to have their loans discharged, announced President Biden, but said it is “temporarily on hold,” because Republicans have taken the matter to court. The president’s announcement came as he made remarks on student debt relief during a visit to Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque. He called Republicans' opposition “hypocritical” as he pointed to congressional Republicans who had millions in Paycheck Protection Program loans forgiven, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who had “$180,000 in business loans forgiven.” Other speakers at the event included members of New Mexico’s congressional delegation and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. close
