Former President Donald Trump announced his run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination in a speech at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. His remarks came a week after the 2022 midterms, which saw Republicans retake control of the House of Representatives with a slim majority and Democrats retain control of the Senate. During his speech, Mr. Trump talked about his campaign platform, with a heavy emphasis on border security and law enforcement, specifically calling for the death penalty to be levied against convicted drug dealers as it is in some Asian nations like Singapore.
