“I wanted to make room for the next generation,” said Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL), who was retiring from Congress after 10 years in the House of Representatives. Her comments came as she spoke with C-SPAN to reflect on her life and career in politics. The representative addressed her time in House leadership, touched on important legislation, and spoke on the friendships she formed with other members of Congress. When asked about her influences, she spoke about Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who she not only referred to as her “role model,” but disclosed she used to babysit his children when she was younger. close
