A three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit heard oral argument in a case concerning the legality of the appointment of a special master to review documents seized by the FBI from former President Trump’s home in Florida. The Justice Department was seeking to end this review and appointment altogether. The FBI executed a search warrant and seized the documents including classified ones, in August 2022. The Justice Department was investigating whether these White House documents were mishandled. This oral argument came as Attorney General Merrick Garland recently appointed a special counsel to oversee the Justice Department’s investigations involving the former president. close
