National Security Council Communications Coordinator John Kirby previewed the upcoming state dinner honoring French President Emmanuel Macron, saying “as the first state visit … this is an opportunity to highlight a foundational component of this administration’s approach to foreign policy, and that’s through alliances.” Mr. Kirby continued, saying that ‘France is a vital global partner," and is the United States’ oldest ally. His comments came as he joined White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at the podium during the daily White House briefing. Other topics addressed during the briefing were the recent protests in China and Iran, the war in Ukraine, a potential rail strike, and energy and home prices. close
