The House voted 290-137 to adopt a tentative reached agreement between the freight rail industry, railroad workers, and the Biden administration. The measure, which would next go to the Senate and was expected to pass, includes a 24 percent pay increase by 2024 and $5,000 in annual bonuses. It also caps health care premiums. More than 30 railroads and 12 unions had been negotiating a new five-year contract since 2019, but they did not reach a final agreement. President Biden asked Congress to impose the deal on the industry to avert a nation-side strike.

Members also passed, 221-207, a second rail industry bill that would add seven days of paid sick time to the agreement. This bill passed along mostly party lines with the support of only three Republicans, but was less likely to pass in the Senate. close
