The Senate voted 80-15 to approve legislation to avert a railway shutdown. The measure, which would next go to President Biden to sign, codifies a deal between the railroads and union workers agreed to earlier in the year. Senators failed, however, to approve a House-passed measure to add seven days of paid sick leave to the rail industry-unions agreement. Members also voted to limit debate on two judicial nominations: Jerry Blackwell to be a U.S. District Court judge for Minnesota, and Doris Pryor to be a U.S. Court of Appeals judge for the Seventh Circuit. close
