Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California achieved fusion ignition, which she described as “creating more energy from fusion reactions than the energy used to start the process.” She called the breakthrough, which occurred on December 5, 2022, “one of the most impressive scientific feats of the 21st century.” Secretary Granholm further explained the importance of the achievement and implications for clean energy and national security.
