National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan gave a midterm assessment of the Biden administration’s foreign policy agenda, at an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Mr. Sullivan reflected on foreign policy decisions made in the first two years, such as the Afghanistan withdrawal and COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy. He also discussed current and future plans, such as continued support for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion and partnering with Africa and other regions on a range of issues. He rejected the notion of tension between domestic and foreign policy issues and emphasized the importance of the U.S. working together with other nations for mutual benefit. close
