Following Chaplain Barry Black’s opening prayer, newly-elected members of the 118th Congress were sworn in. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) gave his farewell speech. He was to resign on January 8, 2023, to become president of the University of Florida. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also gave opening day speeches. close
