Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed on three attempts to get the majority 218 votes needed to become speaker. The House then adjourned until the following day. Normally, the political majority in the House of Representatives controls the cameras in floor proceedings. The one exception is the day of the election of the speaker, when C-SPAN is allowed to control its own cameras.
