Viewers commented on the House floor election for speaker of the House. The Hill's Emily Brooks spoke by phone about Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) chances for becoming speaker. Earlier in the day he failed for the fourth, fifth, and sixth times to get the majority 218 votes needed to be elected speaker of the House. This was the first time since 1923 that the House of Representatives failed to elect a speaker on the first vote. close
