Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas outlined new border security measures during a press conference at the Customs and Border Protection headquarters. He said the measures are designed to enhance security at the U.S. southern border and ports of entry now and after the lifting of Title 42, the public health authority instituted at the border during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Secretary Mayorkas also touched on new legal pathways for asylum seekers and said those circumventing U.S. immigration law would be expelled from the country and face consequences, such as a permanent rebuttal of asylum claims. close
