Pentagon Spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder announced the U.S. would train 90-100 Ukrainian soldiers on the Patriot air defense system at Fort Sill Army base in Lawton, Oklahoma. The U.S. first announced in late December 2022 that it would send the missile system to Ukraine, when that country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, was in Washington to meet with President Biden and members of Congress. Without disclosing classified security information, he said the training would begin in the coming weeks. Brigadier General Ryder’s announcement came as he addressed the press during the daily Pentagon briefing. Other topics discussed included Afghanistan’s harboring of terrorist groups, tensions between China and Taiwan, and U.S.-Japan relations. close
