Senate Republican leaders briefed reporters concerning their accomplishments in the 103rd Congress. Senator Dole stated that Senate Republicans helped stop numerous Clinton administration programs designed to raise taxes and enlarge government. In reference to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), participants discussed the need for continued cooperation with the administration and Democratic leaders on issues Republicans can agree on. Following opening statements, they took questions concerning the upcoming year of the 103rd Congress. A number of questions focused on the investigation into Senator Packwood’s diary. close
