Attorney General Merrick Garland announced three individuals have been arrested and charged in an attempted assassination of a prominent Iranian-American journalist, who has been a vocal critic of the Iranian government. The accused are believed to be part of an Eastern European criminal organization with ties to Iran, and the victim has previously been a target of Iranian officials. Moreover, reporters asked about Charles McGonigal, an ex-FBI official who was recently arrested for allegedly working with a Russian oligarch he was supposed to be investigating, as well as the death of Tyre Nichols and the five Memphis police officers accused of murdering him. FBI Director Christopher Wray said it was the FBI who initiated the investigation against McGonigal and arrested him, and Attorney General Garland said the Justice Department has opened a federal civil rights investigation into the Tyre Nichols case. close
