The White House announced the U.S. shot down a “high altitude object” over Alaska. This latest incident came nearly one week after a fighter jet took down a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said President Biden ordered the shootdown earlier in the morning. He reiterated the U.S. is still investigating what this object exactly was, its purpose and to whom it belongs. Mr. Kirby revealed all of this during a briefing with reporters at the White House. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also fielded questions relating to other topics. close
