“This was 100% preventable. We call things accidents. There is no accident. Every single event that we investigate is preventable,” said National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy about the train carrying hazardous materials that derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. She announced the NTSB would hold a rare public hearing near the crash site to investigate the incident. She also discussed what the NTSB knew so far in their investigation. No human deaths resulted from the incident, but it was reported that more than 43,000 fish have died from the chemical spill that resulted from the derailment. close
