Mallory Stewart, the assistant secretary of state in charge of arms control, discussed the Biden administration’s response to Russia announcing its withdrawal from the New START nuclear arms treaty with the U.S. When addressing how the U.S would approach arms control with Russia, she stated that “nothing is necessarily off the table, but we do need to understand Russian intents here. We need to understand what they’re willing to do.” Other topics included China, the role of treaties and modern risk reduction, crisis communication, artificial intelligence, and space and near-space security.
