Also testifying were Dr. Timothy Westlake, an emergency medical physician from Wisconsin; former Justice Department Special Operations Division Director Derek Maltz; and CATO Institute senior fellow Jeffrey Singer. Several topics were discussed, including education and prevention, the relationship between drug cartels and China, Mexico’s role in stopping the flow of illicit drugs, resources needed for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the effectiveness of scheduling fentanyl-related substances (FRS) as Schedule 1 drugs.
