Labor Department Inspector General Larry Turner estimated $76 billion in fraud was paid through his department--and more than $100 billion was likely wasted in other improper ways--and SBA Inspector General Sheldon Shoemaker approximated $100 billion in fraud was paid through his agency. The witnesses also presented data concerning how many indictments, prosecutions, and convictions have been made, as well as funds that have been recovered. The hearing took place before a House Oversight and Accountability subcommittee.
