President Biden and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen discussed U.S.-Europe relations before having a bilateral meeting at the White House. They talked about the U.S. providing Europe with energy amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Also, amid the U.S. president’s upcoming trip to Ireland in April, Mr. Biden thanked Ms. von der Leyen for her leadership in helping to protect the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Signed in 1998, the agreement mostly ended about 30 years of political violence regarding the status of Northern Ireland. President Biden did not respond to shouted questions from reporters about the recent closure of Silicon Valley Bank, which was taken over by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), in what some say is the largest U.S. bank failure since the global financial crisis more than a decade ago. close
