House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) hosted President Biden and Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for the annual Friends of Ireland luncheon. Speaker McCarthy and President Joe Biden both talked about using the event as a springboard for bipartisanship, and reminisced about ways the Democratic and Republican parties had come together on issues of importance in the past. Taoiseach Varadkar also delivered brief remarks, commenting on the U.S. role in establishing peace in Northern Ireland in the 1990s. Celebrate the Ladies, a New York City-based Irish folk band, also performed. Due to technical issues, a portion of the beginning of this program was not able to be broadcast. close
