“There are many people who have mental health issues … without having a diagnosed mental illness,” said former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams (Trump administration, 2017-21) during a discussion with the Bipartisan Policy Center. He addressed several topics, including the link between mental health and substance abuse, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to properly fund schools to help students with their mental health concerns. Dr. Adams also spoke on the need to reduce the stigma around mental health and applauded Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) for being open about his mental health struggles. close
