Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that “time is running out” for Congress to act on a looming deadline to increase the federal debt limit. “We are already seeing the impacts of brinkmanship: investors have become more reluctant to hold government debt that matures in early June,” she said during remarks at an Independent Community Bankers of America summit in Washington, DC. The secretary’s comments came ahead of a White House meeting on the debt ceiling later in the day with President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), as well as other congressional leaders. close
