President Biden was joined by other G-7 leaders and first lady Jill Biden for a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, which memorializes the estimated 140,000 people who died in the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. The Bidens were greeted by Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his wife, Yuko. They joined other G-7 leaders for a tour of the memorial, then laid wreaths and planted a tree. None of the leaders made any public comments during the event. close
