Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre held a briefing following passage in Congress of the Fiscal Responsibility Act--a bill negotiated by House Republicans and the White House to raise the debt ceiling and limit discretionary spending. The press secretary said the bill would be signed into law by President Biden, “hopefully as soon as tomorrow,” which was two days before the reported deadline to avoid default. Moreover, Ms. Jean-Pierre discussed other issues, including the previous month’s jobs report, LGBTQ rights and Pride Month, and National Gun Violence Awareness Day. close
