“We have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone,” said Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith, who delivered a brief statement to the press on the indictment of former President Trump. Mr. Smith also urged that the “defendants in this case must be presumed innocent until proven guilty … in a court of law.” Former President Donald Trump was indicted on 37 counts, with 31 related to violations of the Espionage Act. Mr. Smith did not take any questions. close
