General Paul Nakasone, the National Security Agency director and Cyber Command commander, delivered remarks at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The many topics he touched on included Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which gives the government authority to do targeted surveillance on foreign persons outside the United States. General Nakasone said the intelligence gathering tool had saved lives and urged Congress to reauthorize it, as current authorization was set to expire on December 31, 2023. Other topics discussed included cybersecurity infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the future of warfare, and addressing threats from China and Russia. close
