After attending a Republican meeting on the government funding deadline, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he “firmly believes there are no winners in a government shutdown … it’s the best way forward to make sure the government does not shut down.” When asked if he was open to a “clean” continuing resolution, he said if they “had a clean one without Ukraine on it, we could probably move that through.” He further said that the Senate’s intended funding plan is “leading us to a shutdown.” The deadline to fund the government was September 30 at midnight. close
