Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) held a news conference after the House passed a continuing resolution (CR) to temporarily fund the federal government through November 17. He said, “Today wasn’t the choice we wanted to have,” saying House Republicans originally tried to pass a stopgap measure with conservative priorities, but the bill did not have enough Republican votes. The speaker also commented on Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) pulling a fire alarm on Capitol Hill, saying he should be punished for the incident, as well as rumors of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) wanting to oust Mr. McCarthy as speaker. “If somebody wants to make a motion against me, bring it. There has to be an adult in the room. I am gonna govern which what is best for this country,” he said. close
