President Biden spoke about the bipartisan continuing resolution that Congress passed yesterday, less than three hours before the midnight deadline, and that he signed last night, thus averting a government shutdown. Among his remarks he said, “It’s time to end governing by crisis and keep your word when you give it in the Congress,” referring to the budget agreement he and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made back in May and that some House Republicans did not honor. He blamed “MAGA Republicans” for nearly causing a shutdown. The president also responded to several questions from reporters. He declined to give an opinion on the future of Speaker McCarthy’s leadership position. close
