Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros and Assistant Secretary of HUD Andrew Cuomo briefed the media on efforts to help the nation’s homeless. President Clinton awarded approximately 187 grants to 44 states in two different program areas: Shelter Plus Care (shelter plus supportive services), a $297 program and SRO (single room occupancy housing for singles), a $113 million program.
