Hedrick Smith recently completed “Challenge to America,” a documentary on U.S. competitiveness and economic strength for PBS. He argued that the U.S. government should enact policies that emulate the economies of Germany and Japan. Richard Rahn, Chief Economist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during the Bush and Reagan Administrations, argued that the U.S. is stronger economically than Germany and Japan and should concentrate on deregulation and free trade to strengthen the economy. close
