President Clinton briefed the media from the Joseph Luns Theatre, NATO Headquarters, in Brussels. The president indicated that the Partnership for Peace would lead to the enlargement of NATO membership and would support U.S. efforts to integrate Europe. He also spoke about NATO’s call for the creation of a combined joint task force and the need to make NATO’s military structure more flexible. President Clinton also mentioned the trilateral agreement between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States which commits Ukraine to eliminate nuclear weapons from its territory. Media questions included the possibility of using air strikes against Bosnia and President Clinton’s upcoming meeting with Syrian President Assad. close
