Governor Tommy Thompson (R-Wisconsin) delivered his state of the state address to a joint session of the Wisconsin legislature. He introduced the University of Wisconsin Rose Bowl football team who stood in the well of the House chamber. During his speech, he talked about advances in communication technology and held up pieces of wire and fiber optic cable. At one point, video images of people watching at remote sites were transmitted to the House chamber to demonstrate the innovations in communication that Wisconsin was implementing. close
